MPB60 - Mounting of the MPB60 Rotational Feed Unit

Before boring any application the Metalock Machines MPB60 needs to be mounted to the application. This is done in an instant by connecting the Rotational Feed Unit (RFU) to the boring bar and main bearing housing.

The MPB60's Rotational Feed Unit (RFU) is attached to the application by securing the mounting clamp to the drive bearing housing on the mounting plate. Like most onsite machining tools, the MPB60 is robust and heavy. Carefully lift the MPB60's RFU onto the boring bar, holding it by its carrying handle while also supporting it from underneath or at the end of the electronics casing.

When placing the RFU on the boring bar, ensure the key of the RFU aligns with the keyway on the boring bar. Once the key is properly aligned and fitted into the keyway, slide the RFU along the boring bar. As the mounting clamp of the RFU slides onto the drive bearing housing, it will connect through the engagement of the index plunger, which will be clearly indicated by a clicking sound. Once the mounting clamp is attached to the bearing housing, ensure it is secured by firmly tightening the mounting clamp screw.

If the leadscrew and feed arm are not already mounted to the RFU, slide the feed arm with the leadscrew onto the boring bar and screw the leadscrew into the RFU, tightening it securely. Make sure to tighten the stop screw to lock the leadscrew to the RFU. Additionally, tighten the collar clamp on the feed arm to ensure it securely grips the boring bar. This step is crucial for the boring bar to move axially in response to commands from the control unit during operation.

Before operating the machine, always verify the alignment to ensure the boring bar has not shifted out of position after mounting the Rotational Feed Unit (RFU).
